We are Shirley - October Edition

Shirley Shows

With Neil away learning his Portuguese paradiddles, shows are a little light on the ground. However we have been asked to play at The Point @ The Zodiac supporting the Young Knives in November – we are also trying to sort out a CD-launch party for sometime in November so check the website for details of that. Our Po Na Na residency continues to prove highly successful, so we'll be back there soon as well.

Crowd Participation - To enhance your enjoyment of the Shirley live experience, don't forget to join in with the claps on 'Susan's Garden Shed' We're still working on the tablature so best just to follow Jan and John (they usually get it right)

To avoid disappointment, remember to always check with our website before travelling.

News

This month it's all about our next Single - It's due out next month. Good things come to those who wait. In line with our 'Shirley don't do B-sides' policy we're marrying 'Surfa del Fuego' (already causing ripples on the Wakeboarding circuit) with the spiky 'Kick the Chair' As a valued member of our mailing list you have the privilege of reserving a copy in advance, so just drop us an email with your details and number of copies required.

It could be You!

This month’s lucky winner of the Shirley prize draw is Keri Blay.

Everyone on our mailing list gets automatically entered each month, so if there’s someone out there you care about, make sure they sign up!

Last month's winner was quite simply overwhelmed. We don't like to divulge full details of our prizes as it's a personal matter between Shirley and fan.

What's Up Doc?

Due to popular demand, we're going to keep you regularly updated with ex drummer Doc's exploits. Doc now has an academic position at Warwick Medical School, leading a research group. The main areas of research will be HIV, especially in children that acquire infection during pregnancy, and also cardiovascular disease. With new colleagues at Warwick and collaborators in London and Philadelphia, Doc will also be exploring routes to drug discovery in addition to developing personalized medicines - a system by which genetic and blood chemistry testing can help doctors tailor treatment to an individual's needs. Once settled in the new job, Doc plans to get behind the kit again. The world of music is a poorer place without him.

A lot of People have been asking us...

A lot of people have been asking us why 'Shotgun Pete' has been notably absent for some time from live sets. Actually well behaved fans who were at the recent Bully gig will know, but we like to keep everyone abreast of Shirley developments. Neil felt particularly strongly about the intro to the song. Obviously well within his playing ability he was more concerned as to whether we actually needed the intro at all. The track was in danger of getting a little too close to the 3 minute mark for comfort so we agreed to ditch the intro, but then we had the problem of deciding how to start the song. Basically it was a toss-up between '1 2 3' or '2 3 4'.This took a few months of serious deliberation. Eventually we all agreed that '1 2 3' was the way forward with the '2' being pronounced a little higher in pitch. It just felt right.
