Match Report - Shirley World Cup Qualifier @ The Port Mahon
With a lot riding on this game and with a squad beleaguered with injury problems, manager Power looked decidedly nervous on the touchline. Soundman and Doorman still out through injury and Promotion still suspended, this looked like an uphill struggle from the start. Shirley started brightly enough. Power had gone for an ambitious formation, playing 3 up front and leaving just Meyer at the back. There was an early scare with Shotgun Pete and Norwegian John combining well, putting Gypsy Sam through with just the keeper to beat. Meyer had no choice but to bring him down and was lucky only to pick up a yellow card. Despite some first half howlers, Meyer did well to keep a clean sheet.
As Shirley raised the tempo, Betteridge was looking impressive down the right flank. There was also some nifty footwork from Palmer on the left. Shirley needed leadership in this vital tie and Jay started displaying a much more vocal performance, often missing of late. A wonderful move starting with a lovely 1 2 3 4 from Meyer and ending with good combination from Palmer, Jay and Betteridge brought the winner that Shirley so richly deserved. The crowd really got behind the boys and they started playing at the top of their game with rhythm and harmony - beautiful. Now through the earlier rounds this Shirley team really could go all the way. As always with Shirley it was very much a game of one half. After 45 minutes it was all over.
After the match we managed to get Power's thoughts on the match - "The boys really did me proud tonight and gave 110%. Despite the intense heat, some of the movement was incredible. Of course there's room for improvement, but we know what we need to look at in training"

News
Recently I enjoyed a tranquil moment in the countryside of West Sussex. There I happened upon a butterfly - nothing fancy, just a Red Admiral I think. As I watched him gaily going about his business, flitting from one leaf to another, it struck me that these very leaves may once have been visited by him back in his caterpillar days. It got me thinking about our recent record contract and how we have gone through our own state of metamorphosis. There are a lot of leaves in the world, and with wings to fly, we're looking forward to landing on them and adding a splash of colour.

A lot of People have been asking us…
Whether it's true that we've just written another smash hit called 'heavy love' and will it be on the forthcoming album? The answer my friends is an emphatic yes.
