December 2006 (List all) We are Shirley - December Edition
Shirley Shows
Bit of a frantic month for the Shirley boys with 2 gigs under our belt already. Wed 20th sees our debut London appearance at the Fighting Cocks in Kingston. We can't wait for that one. This weekend just gone we played at The Jericho Tavern and the ball @ Wolfson College, where we went down a storm.
To avoid disappointment, remember to always check with our myspace (www.myspace.com/shirleytheband) before travelling.
News
We hope you will join us today in commemorating the life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who sadly passed away on this day quite a few years back. Talking of recognising talent, check out our recent Nightshift review! (www.myspace.com/shirleytheband) Vindication of what you guys have known all along.
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Neil Meyer as our new vocal coach. Neil has already made an impact in recent rehearsals and we're looking forward to really nailing those harmonies with Neil's help
New material - currently working on finishing 'The Curse of Tutankhamun'. We're also looking at African Lullaby ('Lala Salama') which promises to show off the soft underbelly of Shirley - all part of our world music influence policy.
It could be You!
This month’s lucky winner of the Shirley prizedraw is Michael Oakes.

A lot of People have been asking us…
How the Great Tit has helped us in our composition. Our mate Dr Hans Slabbekoorn helpfully pointed out to us that the five-and-a-half inch tit has managed to adapt its song to adapt to urban existence. As you'll know, the Great Tit is traditionally a woodland species. It appears that the songs used to attract a mate and defend terrritory are shorter and sung faster in towns than in woods. The urban songs are also at a higher frequency to combat low frequency background noise such as that generated by traffic. Not wishing for our songs to drown in the urban rumble, we're taking this revelation very seriously indeed. We're looking at song-length and possibly shifting some of our numbers up a key or two. Thanks Hans.
In the immortal words of Shaky Stevens, 'Merry Christmas Everyone' Thanks for your support this year.
