Shirley Shows
This month we’re doing a couple of Oxford shows. We’re back at The Exeter Hall Wed 13th and we’re appearing at O’Neill’s battle of the bands Sunday 10th. Unfortunately our Hammersmith gig was cancelled due to licensing problems, but we should be back in the smoke soon.

We’ll keep you posted on our progress on a monthly basis. Overall we’re at number 23, so please keep the votes coming in and thanks to all of you who have already voted for us. Having met Mark, the guy behind the chart, at our recent topoftheox showcase appearance @ Filth, we’re going to be pushing this a lot more, as the whole thing is really taking off with interest from labels and ITV. A lot of People have been asking us...
Where we get our song writing inspiration from. Well, for our latest ‘emo-latin’ offering ‘Gallows night’, we got a lot of helpful input from Shirley’s historian Oswald von Strudelvater. Os has a keen interest in modern Mexican history, particularly round the time of the 1910 revolution. Shirley fans will be amazed to learn that it turns out little Pedro, whose tranquil lake gets messed up by those naughty wakeboard chaps in ‘Surfa del Fuego’, is none other than the grandson of one Francisco Madero. Francisco (as you’ll know) was a brave opponent of the tyrannical General Dias. His colourful political career saw him imprisoned, released, elected as president and then taken prisoner again and executed. Mexico has a lot to thank people like Madero for. People who paved the way for much needed land reform and the constitution that still stands today. ‘Gallows Night’ pays tribute to Madero and takes an emotional look at his last moments before being executed. Gratias Francisco.
