Based on our love of African and Spanish music, Jan is currently on a journey of musical discovery in Cuba, where music is heavily influenced by both. Of particular interest is the Son style, which originated in the Oriente province and laid the foundation for modern salsa and its slower derivative Guajira, identified by its slower tempo and arpeggiated guitar parts.
It could be You!
This month's lucky winner of the Shirley prizedraw is Katie Baddeley
Everyone on our mailing list gets automatically entered each month, so if there’s someone out there not on it, make sure they sign up!
A lot of People have been asking us...
What Sanna will be bringing to our overall sound. Undoubtedly, mention must be given to Sanna's unfeasibly large Bavarian cowbell, which she bought some 3 years ago in a place called Feilenbach, 5km from the beautiful village of Neubeuern. Twas purchased from an old farmer who used to keep cows and now displays bells in all sizes in his shop. Sanna always loved the idea of using a cowbell for drumming but preferred to have the real thing and take it from the cow itself rather than a drum shop. The cows of the region are sent up the mountain in spring where the land is untouched and the grass is better. A woman called Sennerin keeps an eye on all the cows and stays up the mountain for a period of 6 months and often makes cheese and milk to sell to eager mountain climbers. There's always one cow which is the leader cow and wears the biggest bell round her neck. (Should any one try and take it from her, she'll go berserk - the cow that is, not Sennerin)
Happy grazing
