Arcane Festival
Amazingly this will be Shirley's first ever proper festival appearance (despite most gigs feeling like festival appearances to us anyway!) We are so looking forward to it. We'll be gracing the main stage at 10.00 pm. There is an incredible line-up of talent this year, so don't miss it. For full details and ticket availability, visit http://www.arcane-festival.com

The Children of Helen House
Our gig at Douglas House (on the same site as Helen House) was a truly amazing experience, and one we sorely needed after the devastating blow of not going to Epsom. Admittedly we weren't sure what to expect as it was, by definition, always going to be different from a regular gig. Hard to accurately convey in words, there was a magical connection between band, carers and the children. It brought home the transcendental communicative power of music and reminded us of the basic premise that the music should be all about the joy for performer and audience alike. We'd like to thank the staff for making us feel so welcome and it's definitely something we'd like to do again. Originally the show was scheduled to be filmed by the BBC as part of their follow up series to ‘The Children Of Helen House' but they'd double-booked themselves. In hindsight we were glad, as the invasive nature of having a film crew in attendance would have altered the vibe detrimentally. Talking of getting on TV...

Heavy Love Video
Our MySpace now links to the final broadcast quality cut of the video. It now links directly to YouTube, so please add some favourable comments! We've just got to sort out an ISRC number for it and we can get Shirley on the TV stations of the world.

Studio
Hoping to get the two new tracks mixed in August.

Welcome Jamie
On July 24th Johnny P became Uncle Johnny. Congratulations to proud parents Claire & Ant. They'll be delighted to know that a Young Starter Shirley fan indoctrination pack is en route along with a signed pack of our special ‘Shampers' range of nappy.

It could be You!

This month's lucky winner of the Shirley prizedraw is Kate Hood.

A lot of People have been asking us...

How we overcome adversity and disappointment as we skip merrily along on our journey through the world of rock n roll. Tis true that of late we've encountered overpromising and underdelivery, things not quite going to plan, people not doing what they said they'd do etc.etc. In these instances we look to our friend Leonard for the strength and encouragement to keep going. For those of you who don't know Leonard, his story is one of intrigue and the source of much insightfulness. Born in Tobago, Leonard had a frightening experience as a child when he was chased by a rabid bat. He managed to find safety in a lift and there his passion was born. Now a fully qualified lift engineer, Leonard came to our country as the number of lifts needing his expertise in his homeland was limited on an island just 26 x 7 miles wide. Unfortunately, Leonard has developed a number of phobias in recent years, including claustrophobia and a fear of heights. His tactic of working with his eyes closed failed when his fear of darkness began. He now has a fully blown phobia of phobias as there seems no end to them. Despite all this, Leonard the lift engineer is often heard whistling in a cheery way. Admittedly a couple of slices of Tobagoan Banana Cake heavily laced in rum help him through the day, but his determination is awe-inspiring. After hearing ‘Gallows Night' he was quick to point out that things could be so much worse for him. Leonard, in our times of darkness, we thank you for being you.
